TweetsGiving – A Celebration of Gratitude

Next week, from November 24th to November 26th, users on various social networking sites will be participating in a global celebration called TweetsGiving. The idea behind this 48-hour event is for people to spread words of gratitude on their blogs, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and other social media sites. There will also be off-line events planned in cities around the world. I’ll be participating in this event by posting messages on Twitter expressing gratitude during TweetsGiving, as well as writing a piece here in which I’ll be sharing a personal story as an expression of gratitude for a lesson learned long ago.

So, why am I writing about this now? Simple – I want to ask you to join me next week in helping to spread words of gratitude as part of the TweetsGiving community. It can be about anything you like – maybe you’re feeling grateful for landing a new job, or maybe you’re grateful that someone lent you a hand in your time of need. It could be a note of gratitude for the family and friends who bring joy to your life, or it could be feeling appreciative that you can enjoy a warm, sunny day. Whatever or whoever you feel grateful for, the idea here is to share it with the world so that for 48 hours, we can drown out everything else and just hear people sharing words of gratitude.

And if you wish, you can also join me in making a donation to Epic Change, the organization behind this event and who were responsible for the construction of a brand new school for over 300 children in Arusha, Tanzania – you may have seen me interacting with some of them on Twitter using the #twitterkids hashtag. With this year’s event, they’re hoping to raise money to build a technology lab for this school, to build on the work they started thanks to donations given from last year. It’s wonderful to think that these children now have a place to learn and dream up these wonderful futures, all on the wave of people expressing gratitude.

I hope you will join me in participating in such a wonderful and generous event by signing up as I did to be a member of this community, letting others know that you want to be part of a movement that will work to spread gratitude around the world.
